On Monday, 29 December 2025, the Sikasso Regional Coordination Unit organised a regional workshop for the restitution and validation of the final report of the study on identifying job opportunities for rural youth.
The results of this study have made it possible to update and prioritise the job-generating sectors. A total of 11 priority sectors (agricultural and non-agricultural) were identified. They take into account local dynamics, the inclusion of women and persons with disabilities. The study concerned the former Sikasso including the new Koutiala and Bougouni regions.
These are:
-
- Agricultural sectors: Maraching (tomato, onion, gombo), Maize, Potato, Aviculture and Embouche.
- Non-agricultural lines: BTP and plumbing, Agri-food processing (fruit, vegetables, shea), Mechanics and maintenance (auto, motorcycle, agricultural equipment), Solar/voltaic electricity and Catering and services.
This study is a major decision-making basis for guiding the training, productive financing and partnerships of the FIER II project for the sustainable economic integration of rural youth in the Sikasso region.
