PARTNERS OF THE GENDER SEGOU TOOL PROJECT

Project FIER II through the Ségou UCR, organized a capacity-building session of its regional partners to implement the activities of the project in gender, VBG, exploitation, abuse and sexual harassment as part of its Gender Strategy for the period 2025-2030.

The training session brought together the relevant actors in the meeting room of the Territorial Communities Training Centre of the Ségou Regional Council from 27 to 29 April 2026.

Its purpose was to:

  • Harmonize the understanding of actors on gender, VBG, exploitation, abuse and sexual harassment;
  • Share the gender strategy of the FIER II project with the actors involved in implementing the project activities;
  • Exchange on the integration of the gender strategy of the FIER II project into the action plans of the actors;
  • Share the strategy for better gender mainstreaming in the implementation of project activities.

The preliminary work of the workshop was to gather the expectations of the participants, who included: making the difference between gender and gender, taking gender into account in the implementation of the FIER II project, understanding the difficulties associated with the fight against GBV, the types of GBV and their different forms, taking into account vulnerable persons (widows, IDP, HSP), understanding the mechanism including gender, understanding the indicators of the GBV, and the place of gender in a development project.

The different themes covered covered the participatory approach, which included group work, brainstorming and presentations. This approach enabled stakeholders to appropriate concepts and know the difference between « sex and gender »the gender strategy of FIER II, the different forms of VBG, the causes, the factors favouring and consequences, the guiding principles of VBG care and VBG victim care services and the FIER II complaint management manual.

Participants followed the various presentations with great interest and were fully involved in the various group work. All the plenary sessions were the subject of exchanges of great qualities with great sagacity.

Two major recommendations were made by the participants in particular: support for HSPs in dealing with BGV and EAS/HS and the establishment of a mechanism for the sustainability of the project's complaint management committees.

At the end of the workshop, participants expressed their readiness to make good use of the concepts and information received for future activities.
