by | Mar 17, 2020

Mali and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (Fida) organized a workshop on 5 March in Bamako to formulate a new Results-Based Country Strategic Options Programme (RB-COSOP) for the period 2020-2024.
This meeting takes place in a context of drought, climate change and major security concerns, recalls the press release.
« Mali will never give up. Neither he nor the other countries of the Sahel. We are bleeding, but we will win. And we still need IFAD to help us reach critical mass, plus value« , said the Head of State Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, at the opening of the 43rd session of the Fida Board of Directors. « Regions where agriculture has benefited from long-term investments such as the Fida have been more resilient », he notes.

The workshop was an opportunity to initiate the process of formulation of the RB-COSOP (2020-2024) which will determine the framework for the partnership between the government and Fida. Its content will align with national priorities and sectoral policies with a particular focus on cross-cutting aspects of climate change, gender, nutrition and youth employment.

The Strategic Options Programme will identify the Fida's comparative advantage in terms of rural poverty reduction; Target groups and strategy for targeting interventions; Fida's strategic focus in Mali over the next five years; sustainable transformation models and innovations in the agricultural and rural sector. In addition, the programme will define the contribution to achieving the objectives of the Strategic Framework for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development 2019-2023 and the Sustainable Development Goals and a matrix for monitoring results.
